How do you spend your career around death without becoming numb to it?

I’ve been asked some version of “Doesn’t that bother you?” more times than I can count since I started working in forensic medicine.

And the answer is more complicated than having a “strong stomach.”

This week on Forensic Fashionista, I’m talking about what happens when graphic medical content becomes familiar, the difference between professional distance and indifference, humor in heavy spaces, the cases that follow you home, and the kind of forensic pathologist I hope to become someday.

Because I don’t want to become numb to death.

I want to become capable in its presence.

first day of T5!!

somehow we’re already here.

new term, new lectures, same girl convincing herself that this will be the term she stays completely caught up.

after taking a little time to rest and reset after T4, it feels really good to be starting again. a little nervous, a lot excited, and very grateful to be one step closer.

here’s to everything this term has waiting for me 🩺

Because I was exhausted.

I’ve learned that getting ready isn’t always about appearance.

Sometimes it’s an act of self-respect.

In reality, it is a medical specialty focused on understanding the cause and manner of death, and helping provide answers and closure to the families.

It is one of the many reasons I am drawn to this field.
